Summary Description: The position is the main point of contact with transportation suppliers and the corporate logistics group and over sees mill spotting, rail switching, rail yard infrastructure and repairs. Manages on-time delivery, adherence to ordered quantity and damage free shipments to customers. Leads the mill effort in transit damage prevention and continuous improvement in loading practices. Manages paper storage at the mill and use of offsite options for overflow.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Profile

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead efforts to address safety concerns/incidents/hazards in Shipping & Transportation
  • Main point of contact for mill with transportation suppliers (Railroad, Truck, Intermodal) & Billerud Logistics rail/truck managers (Ohio)
  • Equipment

  • Operations including mill spotting and rail switching
  • Oversee mill Railroad infrastructure and manage repairs
  • Manage costs to established goals on mill freight
  • Ensure mill provides superior customer service in:
  • On-time delivery
  • Adherence to order quantity
  • Damage-free shipments
  • Lead mill efforts in transit damage reduction & continuous improvement in Shipping-related opportunities
  • Work with railroad, carriers, and vendors to ensure damage free shipping
  • Lead mill efforts to adopt “lean” transportation & warehousing practices
  • Provide day-to-day leadership in Shipping Department
  • Manage paper storage – onsite warehouse organization & use of offsite options
  • Provide backup coverage for other department positions, as required
  • Participate in weekend support requirements

 

Required skills:

Minimum Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree OR
  • Minimum 5 years of shipping, transportation, or other logistics-related experience

 

Wants:

  • High degree of external and internal customer awareness
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Knowledge of supply-chain processes (i.e., scheduling, inventory management & warehousing, shipping)
  • Experience in supplier / vendor interface
  • Knowledge of accounting practices
  • Strong computer skills with emphasis in OptiVision / SAP applications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
